We are going to implement some rules with regard to tournaments held via this site. These rules are to prevent conflict situation and in case of conflict situations it describes how we are going to solve them. We have created these rules based on several suggestions by members of this site.

SETTING UP TOURNAMENTS
1. If someone wants to organize a tournament on this site, they first have to contact one of the admins (msetten or SkahT) about it. That way we can discuss with the organizers when to start the tournament, so we can have a kind of flow of tournaments (not 5 tournaments that all start at the same time, while a month later no tournaments at all).

2. The tournament organizer has to present use beforehand the rules of his tournament with regard to: scoring system, how disconnects are dealt with in the tournament, entry fees (or not), deck rules, prizes and time periods. That way we can make sure all the basics are covered before the contest started, so that anyone who joins a tournament is clear about the conditions and know that he is getting into. It also gives us the possibility to advice the organizer on some of these topics. We can also decide to give a tournament some additional prizes in the forms of prize vault credits to give-away at the end of the tournament.

3. Once agreed, one of the admins will set up the tournament in the Tournament Module.

4. The tournament organizer then creates a topic for the tournament in these forums and copies that link into the set up page of his tournament in the tournament module.

MANAGING THE TOURNAMENT
* The organizer then manages the tournament via the Tournament Module and the forum topic.
* Registration to tournaments is done via the Tournament module.
* The organizer manages the status of the tournament (registration, active, ongoing or closed).
* The organizer also manages the status of the players in the tournament. Before player can enter games into the Tournament module, the organizer have to make those players active. He can also assign players to groups if required by the tournament format.
* The results of games played are entered into the Tournament Module by the winner of the game.

CONFLICT HANDLING IN TOURNAMENTS
1. If the tournament organizer does not himself take part in the tournament, he can be the judge in conflict situations or ask me beforehand to be the judge for conflicts in his tournament. When the organizer decide to be the judge in his tournament, he can of course always ask me and my advisory board (see http://www.eojmanager.com/forum/posts/list/0/1392.page) for advice.

2. If the tournament organizer does take part in the tournament himself, all conflicts are to be judged by me and/or my advisory board (see http://www.eojmanager.com/forum/posts/list/0/1392.page). The advisory board can also judge in cases that I am taking part in a tournament.

3. If a conflict occurs, the parties have to come to the judge and not start making (angry) posts about it on the forum. If such posts are made, they are going to deleted without warning, so that we can prevent flame wars.

4. The judge will make a post about the conflict in the tournament thread were he tries to explain the conflict as objective as possible and also his decision.

5. The decision made by the appointed judge is final.

6. By joining tournaments on this site, you implicitly agree to the above rules.

PENALITY POINTS
If a player does not play his required matches, does not play by the rules of the tournaments (in other words cheats), the tournament organizer can request the site admins (msetten or SkahT) to give that player one or more penalty points. When someone has 3 or more penalty points, he can not participate in contests, tournaments or give-aways on this site. After three months, the amount of penalty points is automatically decreased by one (so three months later it is decreased again by one). However, the moment another penalty point is given to someone, the counter for the three months starts again.

This is done to make sure that people who join tournaments are really committing themselves to participating in that tournament. In the past, we had several players who signed up for tournaments, but stopped playing their games.

I have just updated the tournament rules. I'd especially like to ask you to read the new Penalty Points section in the rules.

So cheating is the same as not being able to schedule a match and play it by a deadline?

No, it depends on the situation how any penalty points someone gets. A real cheater will probably get an immediate 3 penalty points.
And if in the situation where a match has not been played and it is clear that one of the players is to blame, the other player will of course not get any penalty points.

Of course, I truly hope that I never have to use this penalty system.
